The Connecticut Dental Assistants Association Presents the 67th CDAA Annual Meeting April 16, 2008 at the Courtyard Marriott, Cromwell, CT 8:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.       9:00AM-11:00AM The Mind’s Abyss- A Unique Journey for Dental Assistant’s Into Understanding Addiction, Mental Illness, and Their Own Well Being By Jeff Rosow DMD  (2CEU’s DANB Approved)       Addiction and psychiatric illness are extremely common.  There is very little understanding of these individuals among most people.  Dental assistants are exposed to these populations in both their practices and lives.  In this powerful multimedia presentation, participants will be introduced, in distinctive ways, to the mindset of those who abuse drugs and alcohol along with the challenges of recovery.  In addition, they will be vividly exposed to the difficulties of having a psychiatric illness.  Attendees will learn effective techniques and tools to recognize, and manage these patients in a conventional dental setting.  In addition, several everyday, useful, and practical methods will be presented that can be used immediately to greatly enhance one’s own happiness, health, and achievement.   2:00PM-3:30PM “The Elderly Dental Patient: Considerations For Care in the Dental Setting.” By: Dr. Rita Jepsen  (1 ½ CEU’s DANB Approved)      The seminar will focus on 1) current topics in Geriatrics; 2) oral health and its implications in systemic health and 3) consideration of special needs of the elderly in the dental clinic. The format will include both lecture and discussion of geriatric issues.
