Course Description: This two day course is designed for the semi-experienced to experienced dental assistant preparing for the DANB RHS examination. Participants are required to have basic knowledge of dental terminology and orofacial structures. The review of radiographic concepts and techniques includes: principles of the X-ray production; radiation physics; radiation biology and safety; processing techniques; processing and technique error identification; quality assurance; infection control; intraoral and extraoral techniques; and interpretation and mounting. The review is concluded with a comprehensive written examination used as a learning tool through discussion of test items. The course is meant to assist the participant through the review of key radiographic concepts and provide guidance to foster their study preparation.
About the Instructor: Gary L. Jacobs, CDA, RDH, BS Ed., MPA After obtaining his Associates Degree in Health Science from Tunxis Community College in 1980, Mr. Jacobs attended Central Connecticut State University to achieve a B.S. in education. In the fall of 1989 he began his graduate studies at the University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business where his studies culminated with a Master of Public Administration Degree. In 1994 Mr. Jacobs was offered a position at Edison Community College in Fort Myers, Florida. During his tenure at Edison Community College he assisted in the development of the College’s Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting programs. As faculty at ECC his teaching responsibilities included didactic and laboratory instruction in radiology for both the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting Programs. In the summer of 2000 Mr. Jacobs relocated to Connecticut to accept a faculty position at Tunxis Community College and currently teaches Oral Radiography in the Dental Assisting Program. He currently serves as CDAA President-elect and has focused on Statewide legislative and educational initiatives to improve access to care for the residents of Connecticut along with his fellow Officers. Mr. Jacobs has volunteered to participate on the following Committees: EFDA Curriculum; Legislative Task Force; and Ad hoc Access to Care with the Department of Public Health to serve and promote the Dental Assisting Profession.
